BioMagnesium Systems began operations as a Meytav Portfolio Company in May 2006. 

The company is developing biodegradable magnesium implants for use in the human body.

BioMagnesium Systems is developing biodegradable implants made from proprietary magnesium alloys. The alloys that are being used have superior biocompatibility and mechanical properties compared with existing biodegradable devices. In addition, the technology can potentially replace non-degradable implants that require surgical procedures for removal.

BioMagnesium Systems is determined to bring the next breakthrough to surgery by introducing the first biodegradable magnesium implants into the market in its two areas of focus; orthopedics and general surgery.

In vivo implantation studies confirm the degradation process occurs with no signs of toxic side effects. The company is currently focusing on demonstrating biocompatibility and safety.
