Keter Medical

Application

Keter Medical systems Ltd is an Israeli medical company, developing innovative medical imaging device for diagnosis and treatment of cerebral thrombus.

Technology

A system that will allow the physician to direct ultrasound radiation to a specific area of the intracranial space. The system will be comprises of main units:
1. Patient's headset with two standard TCD probes, which can be controlled from the computer. The headsets would also include a disposable plastic unit, to be replaced for each patient
2. Software for processing the data and presentation of results. The software should allow computation of values of control parameters, which would aim the Doppler ultrasound probe to a specific location detected by the pre-acquired CT images.

The concept of the registration algorithm and workflow:

  1. The headset is mounted on the patients temples.
  2. The CT scan is performed, so that the headset will appear on the CT-acquired images.
  3. The special markers are added to both of the transcranial Doppler ultrasound units, so that they could be identified on the CT images automatically or by physician/operator. The identification of markers should allow the software fully define the relative position and direction of the Doppler ultrasound device in the coordinate system of the reconstructed CT volume.
  4. The special software tools should allow to physician to mark the area of interest on the reconstructed CT volume. It could be sole points in 3D space or the whole neighborhoods, marked with region-of-interest graphic tools. They also could be marked on the cross-sectional planar images or on volumetric representation of cranial space.
  5. The definition of region of interest (ROI) is the input to the registration algorithm, which should calculate the appropriate controls values for Doppler ultrasound units.
  6. The signals from Doppler ultrasound scan of the defined in previous section ROI should be processed and presented on the application screen. It could be the simple Doppler signal presentation. In more advanced version it could be fusion of CT images with the ultrasound images.
