Lartim Medical
Status
Lartim Medical Ltd. is a medical device company developing a novel approach to mitral valve repair in ischemic mitral regurgitation. The Company was founded in March 2008 by Dr. Boris Orlov, a prominent cardiovascular surgeon at Carmel Medical Center, Haifa. Lartim operates within the Meytav Technological Incubator.
Sector and Field of Activity
Cardiovascular Therapy. Approximately 475,000 new ischemic mitral regurgitation (MR) patients are diagnosed every year in the US. Ischemic MR is caused by myocardial infraction and severely affects cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Ischemic MR results from remodeling of the left ventricle (LV) that alters the geometrical relationship between the ventricle and valve apparatus, leading to displacement of the papillary muscles, annular dilatation and therefore tethering of the mitral leaflets and whole valve distortion. A number of surgical techniques have been developed, including the restricted annuloplasty. However, these techniques have not improved survival rates and are subject to a high incidence of late failure. Lartim’s novel technology will focus on altering the geometrical relationship by relocating the valve using a unique stapler device.
