Cardio-Vascular minimally invasive therapy, Aortic Valve stenosis, Calcification.
Over million Americans over the age of 65 suffer from calcific aortic stenosis. The symptomatic patients with calcific aortic stenosis (CAS) suffer from are heart failure, syncope, and angina. To date, surgical replacement of the aortic valve (AVR) is the only treatment for symptomatic disease. In the U.S. alone over 50,000 patients per year undergo AVR. This number represents represents less than a 1/3 of patients requiring surgery. Approximately 150,000 patients requiring AVR are not treated. Reasons for not undergoing AVR include: patient’s refusal, various co-morbidities, and risk to performing the operation. ReLeaf procedure offers these patenits a minimally invasive, catheter-based treatment which is less traumatic than AVR, and can be performed in high risk patients. Additional applications include removal of plaque from atherosclerotic arteries in peripheral arterial disease. Management
